Secure Beauty Points With Insta-Tans

Become a smooth operator this season with an even all-over golden tan. Don’t wait for your New Year beach break, give yourself an instant Midas touch at home. We’ve all used self-tanners that have left left us orange, streaky, stinky or greasy, swearing to only ever head to a salon for a spray, but there are some fantastic home-friendly products that will give you that sun-kissed radiant glow, saving you time and money.

But first, a few tips to ensure you tan glides on smoothly and doesn’t streak.

1. Wax your legs and bikini line so you’re smooth all over;

2. Exfoliate to remove dead skin cells, but don’t use salt or sugar scrubs. The oil in them leaves a barrier on your skin and the self-tanner won’t adhere properly. A loofah and soap works best (pay extra attention to your knees and elbows);

3. Apply a small amount of moisturiser all over to help the tanner to adhere;

4. Stand in front of a mirror to see what you are doing and use surgical gloves so your palms and skin under your fingers don’t get too dark;

5. Apply self tanner in big circular movements. On your face, just place a dot on your cheekbones, nose, forehead and chin and then blend, feathering them into your hairline;

6. Once done, take five minutes in front of a fan or air conditioner and then put loose dark clothing on – never put your insta tan on just before you go out. Try to do it at least one day or night before;

7. If you find you’ve got a splotchy spot, streak management is easily sorted with hand sanitiser. Just put a dollop on a towel and rub over the spot to get it off.
